In year 11, we follow the Edexcel BTEC level 2 titled Applications of Science. All students are required over the course of the year to complete the 120 guided learning hour qualification. This consists of 4 units, 3 of which are coursework based and the final one is an examination;
Unit 5 – Applications of chemical substances
Unit 6 – Application of physical science
Unit 7 – Health applications of life sciences
Unit 8 – Scientific skills – Examination
Students can achieve pass, merit and distinction grades at the end of year 11 if they complete all of the required tasks for each unit at that level. To achieve a merit grade, students need to complete all of the criteria for a pass as well as merit. The same is true for a distinction. More detailed descriptors for each unit can be found below.
