Food Technology is about all aspects of cooking and preparing food. We look at hygiene and food safety as well as healthy eating. The pupils experience a wide range of cooking styles and use numerous types of equipment. They start with basic cooking skills tasks such as fruit salad in which they learn correct chopping techniques, and then move onto using the hob and oven for boiling, baking and decorating ideas. As the 8 week course progresses the tasks gain more depth in which the classes look at how temperatures can affect outcomes. The last project is an individual cake which they make from scratch and decorate using icing and coloured accessories. The pupils have a real chance to be creative with this.
